Time as Xbox Ambassador: I have been an Ambassador for about 2 and a half years.
Most Knowledgeable Genre(s): The genre I'm best with is certainly RPG's. I love the way you can immerse yourself totally into the game. I do enjoy FPS too but RPG's are where I would spend most of my time, and I have played pretty much every one available for the 360.
Time Zone and Time when Online and on Forums on an average day? GMT 00:00 (London). Usually online early afternoons and most evenings to play online, and usually afternoons for the forums, this is the spare time I get from being a mum and partner.
What was the main reason you had for becoming an Xbox Ambassador?
I wanted to encourage less confident gamers to play online, it’s hard for people who are new to come online, play and make friends and especially some girl gamers who think that gaming is dominated by men - I wanted to show and help the people enjoy and grow to love Xbox LIVE as I do. I helped a friend of mine who could barely pick up a controller, let alone play online; I showed her the enjoyable social side to Xbox LIVE as well as how to play the game. She is now addicted to COD and has a large friends list and I wanted to do this for more gamers.
What would you consider your 'specialty' area?
Most certainly showing gamers around Xbox LIVE, I love the social and friendly aspect to it and have a great set of friends that I play with all the time which welcome new gamers and make them feel part of the group. I like to meet new people from all over the world and show them the fun relaxed side of Xbox or the team-gaming, which some prefer.
What would you consider is your greatest contribution to the Xbox Community?
Introducing the motto "play for fun". I like to take away the seriousness of certain games and make them about enjoying playing with friends more than who got the most kills etc. Serious gaming is good for hardened gamers who enjoy it but there are a lot of people who feel intimidated in these type of games and my closer friends online and I play for the fun and enjoyment not for the win, and through this more people can enjoy the online experience as a whole more than just the game.
How do you best recommend that other gamers contact you should they ever require help in the future?
Xbox LIVE message - voice of text is the first way to contact me always, I will always respond to sensible and gaming related texts and voice messages, then a PM on the Forum if they would prefer. I’m a social and easy going person so people should feel free to contact me whatever the issue or query.
Some might argue that many gamers still don’t know about the existence of the Ambassador program and what its goal is. Do you agree and how would you like to see information about it be put out to the Community?
I agree people still confuse Ambassadors with Moderators and Xbox LIVE staff, and many people don’t know exactly what it is we are for or do! There should be a better way of letting new gamers know about the program such as a screen about us and what we do and where to find us on the Xbox LIVE sign-up page when they join on their Xbox’s or even on the dashboard, as many new gamers do not go to xbox.com and finding us once on there is not the easiest either.
If you could provide any information on a specific genre or game, what would it be?
Well in RPG's my advice is to go everywhere and search everywhere as little side-quests or hidden box's off the beaten track can a lot of the time provide things that make the game much easier later on. Also levelling-up on speech, charisma, bartering etc. helps more than people think, going for strength and speed isn’t always the best way to go! Immerse yourself in the games, some people run off on the main quest too quick and miss out on the splendour and detail that games such as Oblivion, Fallout and Dragon Age have to offer. Also a quick one for FPS - COD MW2 to be specific, having ‘steady-aim’ and ‘deep impact’ as your perks at the start give you the best chance of getting kills whilst you are ranking up and getting used to the game.
